Design Matters

Design Matters is a Copenhagen-based conference on digital design – made for designers, by designers. It is a place to gather together, share ideas, and discuss experiences. Design Matters involves a knowledgeable community of creative and curious minds who share the same drive and passion for digital design, technology, art, society, and sustainability.

Since 2015, Design Matters has been sharing stories about new movements in design, giving inspiration to designers from all over the world, growing each year and reaching 1000 participants pre-Covid in 2019, and again from 2022 on. Design Matters landed for the first time in Tokyo in 2020, and in Mexico City and Lagos in 2023. Since 2020 Design Matters has hosted its conferences in a hybrid way – online & in-person. OUR MISSION

We, at Design Matters, are designers and activists. This is why, every year, we bring on stage the most brilliant and skilled design practitioners to talk with honesty and passion about their experiences, challenges, successes, and failures. Our mission is to spark up the conversation about the work and the role of digital designers – now and in the future - and to build a global, diverse, and inclusive community where people connect and empower each other.

For its 10th anniversary, Design Matters will be a three day conference - featuring talks, workshops, networking activities, and evening performances

THE CONFERENCE

All the talks revolve around defined topics that change every year. The workshops let you dig deeper into a specific technique, process, or skill that you can take home and put into practice right away. You will also find networking and crafty activities, as well as evening performances and parties to allow yourself to unwind and connect with other fellow designers.

Design Matters isn’t just a conference, though! It is also an opportunity to take part in exciting activities around Copenhagen on the days before and after the event – such as museum tours, design studio visits, and meet-ups. Before the conference starts is usually an informal meetup and on one evening of the conference is the official evening party, both open to participants and speakers. Design Matters isn’t only about inspiring talks and engaging workshops. It's also about creating the friendliest and most welcoming atmosphere, including people from all backgrounds. Today, Design Matters has grown into an internationally renowned conference including diverse, knowledgeable, kind, and inspiring people from all over the world.
